Bob Grant Construction, Inc.

Harvey Childers

Misc job pics 2 011Harvey has been in and around the construction business for most of his life. He began by working summers and weekends for his dad and uncles while he was in high school and college. After college and a stint in the US Marine Corps he started a small residential and light commercial remodel business in his home state of Kentucky in 1973. When he was offered a position as a superintendent for a commercial TI contractor in Phoenix, AZ, he jumped on it and moved in 1981. After two years at that he started a similar business of his own in the same area which lasted 8 years until a glut of new construction on the market killed business. Harvey then came to Oregon and went to work for Bob Grant Construction in Corvallis as General Manager in 1991. Ten years ago in 1995 Harvey’s wife was diagnosed with cancer. Three years later it became necessary for him to find a business in which he could spend more time close to home as his wife needed more and more care as time went on. So in 1998 he set up an office in his home and began working as an estimator for architects and contractors.  His wife passed away in August of 2000, but Harvey continues in the business. He is 58 years old and resides in Albany with his wife, Lucy. He has 2 grown children, 4 grown stepchildren, and 13 grandchildren. He has been estimating construction jobs of one sort or another for about 33 years and estimating commercial projects for the past 25 years.
